3a. leased line testing method
Posted by: "Er. Munish Bhatheja" getmoni2001@yahoo.com bhatheja_munish
Date: Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:17 pm ((PST))

I want to know the method of testing leased line provided to banks in group exchanges between modems. We check the copper pair between two modems (one in bank and other in village exchange) by providing dialtone on pair from exch and check that dialtone in bank but this is not sophisticated way of testing, there may be problem in terminations or earthing. Can anybody tell me the way for testing leased line as it is i.e. connected on modems?

hi dear,
You can check the line with digital multimeter by kept the swith node of multimeter on Resistance mode. The end of the copper pair should be looped from far end and there may be no change in the Resistance eg. pair shows 250 Resistance it should not be varied while testing on meter you can check atleast for 2 min if it changes from 251 to 250 then pair gives problem then change the pair otherwise test from nearest end of exchange.

> Dear Munish for testing of leased line copper pair you must use the multimeter in place of dial tone . The LOOP Resistance of copper pair for 0.5 sq mm is about 172 ohm/km so that you calculate the approximately distance and multiply the same with above value. It should be stable if any variation then change the pair and also their is some other problem such as earth on pair and this case fault is not diagnose by multimeter. In case of MLLN cct the resistance of ctu-s modem is below 40 ohm . for stu -160 resistance is about 10 ohm.
