*How many mobile phone in India..? Govt to check.*

The government is planning to carry out a pilot project to find the actual
number of mobile telephone users in the country, which according to the
operators stands at 670 million now.

*The decision comes amid reports that the subscriber numbers reported by the
operators were incorrect and does not give a true picture of the number of
actual mobile users in the country. *

In a the meeting of Telecom Commission, held last week, it was decided that
"...an exercise should be done on pilot basis in a representative area to
know the actual number of active users as against the number of active SIMs
in that area."

At present TRAI releases subscriber figures as recorded in the Home Location
Register (HLR) of the telecom service providers. It gives record of total
number of SIMs sold and not active subscribers.

*A HLR is a database of user (subscriber) information, customer profiles,
used in mobile (cellular) networks. HLR counts multiple SIM issued to an
individual as a separate connections. *

Based on HLR record, TRAI stated that the total number of wireless
subscribers in the country reached 670.60 million in the country in August.

*The (Visitor Location Register) VLR data gives the details of active
customers at a given point of time. VLR is more authentic in knowing the
active subscriber numbers. *

Although no official figures are available for non-active subscribers, some
estimates show that actual number of subscribers may not be more than 500
million.

This, however, could not be ascertained either from the government or
operators.

there is no format for applying for incentive. This is how i got my incentive.

I wrote a letter through proper channel to DGM(admn), seeking incentive. I attached the coies of permission letter to study, degree certificate etc I got a letter from admn office stating that I need to attach a letter addressed either by the DE or DGm of my unit, stating that the course undergone by me is useful to the organsation. I also attched a copy of such a letter from my DE. My file was forwarded to CGM office.

I got the incentive. Also I received a CONGRATS LETTER  from my GM and DGm.

See something positive in every person and in every situation

Andrew Carnegie came to America from Scotland as a young boy. He started out by
doing odd jobs and ended up as one of the largest steel manufacturers in United
States.

At one time, he had 43 millionaires working for him. A million dollars is a lot
of money today, but in the 1920s it was worth much more.

Someone once asked Mr. Carnegie how he dealt with people. Andrew Carnegie
replied, "Dealing with people is a lot like digging for gold: When you go
digging for an ounce of gold you have to move tons of dirt. But when you go
digging, you don't go looking for the dirt, you go looking for the gold."

Andrew Carnegie's reply has a very important message. Though sometimes it may
not be apparent there is something positive in every person and every situation.
We have to dig deep to look for the positive.

As i given my views before Goa aic and was expecting some healthy discussion
and concrete solution for funding to SNATTA. but unfortunately i was not able to
come to goa because of ayodhya issue. the result of goa aic was also not as
expected, there was no discussion about union vs association, funding procedure
for snatta, role of snatta in forthcoming verfication, further struggle for 7
year to 5year in jto lice and even though next conference venue is also
undecided. As for as support is concerned we are supporting bsnleu since last 4
year physically, morally and financially but we got adverse results (poor wage
revision, discrimination in NEPP, JTO lice and designation change is still
awaited though we have written agreement with bsnleu perhaps u remember). So i
think we don't have a single point to support bsnleu & i feel winability factor
must not be a criteria to support any union but to support those union which
work for us and at least do something for betterment for TTAs not adverse as
bsnleu did. As for as nfte is concerned, we opposed nfte in the last
verification then how we can expect something from them though they are talking
for ttas because of voting constraints.

*BSNL slashes 3G tariff, Unlimited 3G at Rs.700/month.*

*BSNL* has yet again announced tariff reduction for 3G users. Yes, you read
it right, BSNL has further reduced the Unlimited 3G charges by almost 50%. *The
effective cost of using unlimited BSNL 3G will be Rs. 700/month* (Rs. 4,200
for 6 months) from 1st November 2010*. There is no fair usage policy
applicable on this scheme so you can download/upload as much as you want. In
addition to the reduction in monthly rental, *BSNL has also reduced the
price of its Data Card to 2000 Rs..*

*All new 3G registrations shall be entitled for one week unlimited data
download in addition to the existing freebies offered with new activation. *The
promotional unlimited data download facility will commence from the date of
activation of 3G plan and after 7 days normal freebies of 200 MB will be
credited to the account of the prepaid customer. This facility is applicable
to both prepaid and postpaid new connections. This offer of unlimited
download for a week will remain open for a promotional period of 90 days
from the date of implementation.

*Tariff for unlimited data plans: *

*The above promotional scheme for data card will continue till further order
and the above tariff will be implemented with effect from 01.11.2010.*

*These are rock bottom prices for unlimited 3G in India. This tariff
reduction is bang on target and will surely give Private Telecos like DoCoMo
& Airtel tough time, who are on the verge of launching their 3G services in
India. BSNL has step up to the occasion and has made sure that the private
providers will have to do something out of the box to attract customers.
This is not going to be easy for private players after paying a huge amount
of money to acquire licenses and the fact that no provider has license to
operate in every circle, makes it even tough to establish themselves as a
key 3G provider in India. Every 3G provider will have to make tie-ups for
providing services on roaming which will again increase the cost. It will be
interesting to see how private providers react to this brutal blow from
BSNL.*

5. BSNL, Airtel most searched online for 3G
Posted by: "Bandhan.P.Singh" email13@gmail.com bsnl_chd
Date: Thu Oct 28, 2010 1:22 am ((PDT))

*BSNL, Airtel most searched online for 3G*

With private operators gearing up to launch 3G services,* online searches
for 'wireless broadband' have doubled over the past three months*; whereas
BSNL and Airtel 3G are the most searched service providers for 3G services
searched by people browsing the net, according to Experian Hitwise.

Navin Chandani, managing director, Experian Marketing, said, "Over 5,300
different variations of the word 3G (example 3G services, 3G handsets, 3G
mobiles etc) are being searched by Indians on the internet, which translates
to the fact that *3G is on the minds of a lot of people*."

*He further stated, "BSNL is the most sought after 3G service provider,
followed by Airtel, MTNL and Tata Docomo."*

Experian Hitwise is a keyword research tool for analysing the long tail of
search data. It provides insights on how people have successfully searched
for products and services online across all major search engines. The data
that Experian Hitwise studies does not include mobile internet searches.

The company tracks 25 million internet users globally. However, in India it
is dependent on panel data for reporting internet activity. Although
Chandani refused to divulge the exact panel size he assures, "statistically
and analytically the panel size and composition is a fair representation of
the entire Indian consumer population on the internet."

A recent report by the company revealed that Nokia is the most searched
mobile handset manufacturer in India, followed by Samsung. Eight of the ten
most searched mobile phone models in India are manufactured by Nokia, with
the company's 5233 model claiming the top spot. Samsung, with its Corby and
Champ, was the only other manufacturer to have made it to the list.

Interestingly, Micromax took over Apple iPhone to become the third most
searched mobile handset manufacturer in India.

Chandani opines, "There may be several factors working in the favour of
Micromax. However, I believe that the offline marketing and branding
campaigns undertaken by Micromax appear to be working in its favour. Its
positioning as an economic and feature rich mobile brand is helping it
overtake the iPhone, which is yet an expensive proposition for a majority of
the population."

He believes that it may be difficult for iPhone to recover considering that
the Indian mobile market is price sensitive.

6. BSNL offers free SIM with landline connection
Posted by: "Bandhan.P.Singh" email13@gmail.com bsnl_chd
Date: Thu Oct 28, 2010 1:22 am ((PDT))

*BSNL offers free SIM with landline connection*
MUMBAI: To arrest the fast depleting user base of its landline services, the
state-run telecom major BSNL today announced a free mobile SIM with its
wired connection.

Announcing the scheme named *'Pyari Jodi'* here, Union Minister of State for
Communications & IT Sachin Pilot said to begin with, the scheme will be
rolled out in Mumbai and then to rest of Maharashtra and Goa.

The scheme is aimed at using the telco's large landline customer database to
boost its mobile business, which has of late lost steam.

This innovative scheme will enable all BSNL landline subscribers in
Maharashtra and Goa to get a free mobile SIM card. It is not the connection
that will be free, but even the calls to BSNL wired line service will be
free.

"All calls from this free SIM to the landline on which it is offered will be
free," Pilot said.

This move will benefit BSNL's 26 lakh-odd landline subscribers in the state.
Pilot said extension of this scheme to other circles will depend on its
performance in Maharashtra.

Dear chandandeep

The new sim under the home unlimited scheme will be available to only those customers who are already having BSNL landline telephone...i.e. subs have to submit their latest bill copy as an identity proof along with other identification documents...new sim will be activated with the scheme of unlimited free call to the landline number against whom the sim is alotted...i think this might have clear your doubt

4. BSNL network can collapse at anytime
Posted by: "Bandhan.P.Singh" email13@gmail.com bsnl_chd
Date: Wed Oct 27, 2010 3:13 am ((PDT))

*BSNL network can collapse at anytime*

Overloaded MPLS network, on which, *data traffic of many mission-critical
applications of the country runs, can collapse at anytime*. This collapse of
network will hit badly the broadband services of BSNL, mobile broadband
being delivered through 3G network of BSNL and MPLS-VPN network or leased
circuit line.

*This breakdown of BSNL Network will put off various government services and
major part of defense communication network*. There are more than 20,000
enterprise customers that rely on MPLS-VPN service offered by BSNL to run
their mission-critical applications. This includes mostly banking and
financial institutions and organization such as top nationalized banks, oil
and gas companies as also companies of other sectors.

As a result, banking operations such as transactions through ATM and core
banking processes, transactions on petrol pumps and many other services
crucial for day-to-day life of people and businesses across the country can
come to a halt.

*CIOL has learnt from some reliable sources that BSNLs MPLS network has
noticed traffic load of up to 80 per cent on the network in its peak hour on
its core network whereas IP technology does not permit such high overload,
due to IP packet collisions at such higher loading. Typical loading should
not exceed more than 50 per cent of its rated capacity.
*
Data travels on IP network in form packets. In layman terms, the situation
of core network is like over-load traffic on road. If there is heavy
traffic, the speed of vehicles slows down. In case there are accidents in
this traffic, all the vehicles stop. Similarly, there are too many data
packet collisions in BSNLs core MPLS network at such higher loading.
*Therefore
data speed on BSNL network on many occasions becomes very slow adversely
affecting broadband Internet, said a BSNL official who did not want to be
named.*

*The BSNLs rated network capacity to handle traffic load of more than 300
Gigabit is very much underutilized due to wrong planning and inconsistent
procurement policies, claimed the official. *BSNLs MPLS core network has
about 200 node equipment throughout the country, which comprises core, edge
and access networks connecting users in various telecom circles and
associated district head quarters of the country.

These 200 MPLS node equipment, using about 400 long distance media links,
are getting connected to each other. With this arrangement of what is called
as mesh connection, technology should provide transfer of traffic load from
one to other incessant flow of data packets.

But, with such high overloading of BSNLs MPLS network on some paths,
coupled with frequent breakdowns due to OFC cut and failure of some node
equipment in its long distance network, the situation is becoming worse.

We have high capacity optical fibre cables everywhere, but we dont have
the capacity in node equipment to connect efficiently with each other
because of irregular procurement process of critical MPLS equipment, said
the official.

The links that are frequently getting overloaded and at high risk are
Indore-Mumbai, Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Lucknow-Indore-Mumbai,
Lucknow-Nagpur-Mumbai, New Delhi-Mumbai, Jaipur-Mumbai, New Delhi-Bangalore,
New Delhi-Chennai and Jalandhar National Internet backbone.

*The expansion plan of this MPLS core network was seriously upset by the
internal differences between very senior officials in BSNL Head Quarters,
claimed the official. *

According to some BSNL officials, the nodes in core MPLS network are
connected with each other through mostly Cisco equipment. These equipment
are currently underutilized to the extent of one tenth of their rated
capacity and an easy upgrade can be done by adding interface cards on these
equipment. However, as per officials information, with the interoperability
issues with these equipment, only Cisco can provide such additional
interface cards required for upgradation of this network.

*The BSNL official further alleged that taking benefit of monopoly due to
interoperability issues, Cisco vendors are quoting high prices for such
interface cards comparable to the equipment itself.*

CIOL made attempt to reach Cisco on this non-interoperability issue but no
comments or clarification was received by the time this report went online.

There is pressure on senior officials in southern telecom project to
finalize this tender in favour of a particular vendor, further alleged the
official.

Contrary to this claim, another senior official of southern telecom, BSNL
who is closely involved with the tender, denied such allegations.

The tender was canceled because the shortlisted vendors could not meet some
eligibility and technical criteria. Cisco is original equipment manufacturer
for only one of six vendors that were shortlisted. We have no issues
relating to financial bids and there are no external pressures for favoring
any particular vendor, further said the official.

*This official also mentioned that the tender will be re-floated within a
week and with some relaxation in eligibility and technical criteria. *

We urgently need to expand our IP MPLS network. We are going to float this
tender within this week with some relaxation in the tender norms, said the
STP official.

*When contacted by CIOL for a clarification pertaining to this issue, BSNL
CMD Gopal Das said he did not feel that the BSNL network is overloaded. He
also added that at the moment he is not aware of the tender floated by the
department for the procurement of equipment to expand the network.*

8. Think before you go for protests next time

Some Months Back The Left parties hold up a 1
week protest against the centre for the price rise, infront of our bsnl
customer care. They blocked the working of that CSC for 1 week. Now I
understand why and for whom they did that!!!!!!!!

http://expressbuzz.com/cities/thiruvananthapuram/deshabhimani-dumps-bsnl-prefers-reliance/216340.html

Deshabhimani dumps BSNL, prefers Reliance

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pushing all big talks regarding the existence of public
sector companies out of range, the CPM state leadership has okayed the
entry of Reliance Communications as the communication partner of its
mouthpiece Desabhimani. All units of Deshabhimani were linked together
with a high-speed Reliance connection the other day, after replacing the
existing BSNL data network.

The reason: poor service and exorbitant bill charged by the BSNL. Fed up
with the continuous delay in sending advertisements and pages, the
management of Deshabhimani which comprises Central Committee member E.P.
Jayarajan and state secretariat member V. Dakshinamoorthy among others,
decided to dump the BSNL connection. Reliance was picked up as the
substitute as they offered the best bargain.

How can we stick to the BSNL. Their service is very poor. We are fed up
with page delays. In addition, they are charging huge amount as monthly
bill, said E.P. Jayarajan, General Manager of Deshabhimani. According to
Jayarajan, the Deshabhimani management may rethink about taking the BSNL
connection when the services offered by the PSU becomes better.

However, top sources in the BSNL denied the allegations of Jayarajan that
their service was poor. They said the decision of Deshabhimani to dump the
BSNL was a sudden one and taken without any provocation.

It may be recalled that the CPM and the CITU had organised a series of
struggles to protect the BSNL. It had repeatedly accused the UPA Government
for purposefully weakening the BSNL and promoting private telecom operators.
But, all those arguments were forgotten by the party when it took the
crucial decision to dump BSNL.

BSNL Employees Union, the pro-CPM union in the BSNL, is upset with the
decision. We always tell everyone to subscribe to our service. Let it be a
government office, a private office or a newspaper. Our policy is to promote
BSNL connection, said K. Mohanan, secretary, BSNL Employees Union.

But, Deshabhimani might have its own reasons to switch over. It would be
unfair if we make a comment without knowing fully the circumstances, he
said.

Mohanan also said that his Union would try its best to convince the CPM
about BSNL services and win back the Deshabhimani connection.

Dear, I think this is not the right time for our issues to be included in strike agenda. Also this strike has been called by joint action forum of all bsnl unions/associations and has been called for the cause of bsnl or the agenda point have been included which are common for all unions/associations but not any sole issue of any union/ association. I think this will not the right time and right platform. This will show only our selfishness and also bsnleu will not include our issues in strike agenda anyway nor joint forum will give its consent for inclusion of our association's demands.

Dear CHQ

I was read on BSNLEU site, that they are called strike for 3 days on 1st Dec to 3rd Dec 2010 on various issues,

Obviously BSNLEU will call us for our valuable support, My humbled request to our chq is that the issues for which they called strike, we will force to BSNLEU GS to include our issues in that list also e.g. 1) JTO exam 2) Pay fixation for on & after batch 2007 & 3) designation change issue

Out of our three major issues we know that first one is not solved in 1 month but rest of two issues will be solved

So our chq will create pressure on BSNL GS,

Find the userid of customer in CRM.
In data.bsnl.in portal
fill the new userid of customer in port binding option
then you will get the binded port of DSLAM
then just delete it as we used to do in old system.
