A brand is a trademark connected with a product or producer. Brands have become increasingly important components of culture and the economy, now being described as cultural accessories and personal philosophies.
Building a brand image is not an easy task; it requires careful brand management, which should be supported by a cleverly crafted advertising campaign, creating value and furnishing the expectations of the consumers.
In a latest nationwide survey conducted by a reputed firm for Brand Equity, which is the benchmark for trust, an ageless virtue and the ultimate pinnacle that every marketer and every brand wants to achieve, we study about the top telecom brands of India.
 
Nokia
Nokia has been announced as the top brand in the report. Nokia has played a pioneering role in the growth of cellular technology in India, starting with the first-ever cellular call a decade ago, made on a Nokia mobile phone over a Nokia-deployed network. At present, the company employs over 15000 employees and India holds the distinction of being the second largest market for the company globally.
With the global launch of Ovi Store, the company's Internet services brand name, Nokia is renewing itself to be at the forefront of the convergence of internet and mobility.
 
Reliance Communications

Reliance Mobile has been ranked tenth in the survey. It was launched on 28 December 2002, coinciding with the joyous occasion of the late Dhirubhai Ambani's 70th birthday, was among the initial initiatives of Reliance Communications.
RCom has a reliable, high-capacity, integrated (both wireless and wireline) and convergent (voice, data and video) digital network. It is capable of delivering a range of services spanning the entire infocomm value chain, including infrastructure and services.
Today, Reliance Communications is revolutionizing the way India communicates and networks, truly bringing about a new way of life. It is India's leading integrated telecommunication company with over 80 million customers. Recently, the company had launched the GSM service in various parts of the country.
 
Airtel
Airtel leads in the number of customers in the country, but ranks twelve, below the RCom. Globally, Bharti Airtel is the 3rd largest in-country mobile operator by subscriber base, behind China Mobile and China Unicom.
The company offers wide array of services like Mobile Services, Airtel Telemedia Services & Enterprise Services. It has presence in all 23 circles of the country and covers 71% of the current population (as of FY07).
 
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)
BSNL, a public sector telecommunication company has been ranked nineteen in the report. It is India's largest telecommunication company with around 24% market share and 90 million customer base. The company has an estimated market value of $ 100 billion and provides a wide array of services like Wire-line, CDMA mobile, GSM Mobile, Internet, Broadband, Carrier service, MPLS-VPN, VSAT, VoIP services, IN Services etc. BSNL has been adjudged as the number one ISP in the country.
According to the company, Brand Equity can be built with good quality of services at the affordable price. Continuous innovation in product and delivery of services with the appropriate pricing is the key strategy for developing the trust in customer so that user keeps his loyalty with BSNL.

LG India
LG India has been ranked twenty in the survey. The company was established in 1997 as a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, South Korea. In India, LG is the market leader in consumer durables and recognized as a leading technology innovator in the information technology and mobile communications business.
The company has an impressive portfolio of Consumer Electronics, Home Appliances, GSM mobile phones and IT products.
